My cat, Bukey, pronounced BOO-KEY, and named after author Charles Bukowski, went blind. She is going on 17 years old. She has adjusted to her blindness quite well. She’s using her other senses, especially smell, to get around. Here’s a photo of her extremely dilated pupils. Click on it for a larger look.

Her retinas detached and that is why she is now sightless. It happens. From what I’ve read on the Internet blindness is not uncommon in older cats. It wasn’t sudden. It happened over time but I just did not notice it. I don’t know if I could have saved her sight if I had realized it in time. Her blood work, according to the vet, was all good, considering her age. The vet said it could be a lesion on her brain. Who knows.
